100 Watt Mind
100 Watt Mind doesn’t just make music SOME people will like, they make music MOST people will like. In an ever changing musical landscape where trends come and go faster than the latest Tool record, 100 Watt Mind sets out to create music free of trends.
“If you play good music, it’s timeless,” says guitarist (and also co-writer for most of 100WM songs) Skyler Squglio. “It doesn’t matter what kind of era you’re in, you will still shine through.” And shine they do (as their name implies) with 100 Watts of fury that scream out their amplifiers at 100mph until those first notes from the siren’s call of Brynna Dean seem to make the world stop for just a moment and then slam back into high gear with the first of her signature Plant-like screams.
What makes 100 Watt work is that they’ve created sound all their own and yet rock music lovers, no matter the generation, can identify with what they’re doing and use a rock band from their decade of choice from the 60’s on up to 2010’s to compare it to. Old school rock and rollers recall the heydays of Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin from the music and Grace Slick or Janis Joplin from the vocals. The more punk rock crowds will tell you X or Patti Smith and the new age rockers often point out influences like Queens of the Stone Age and The White Stripes.
Whether it has been opening for Robert Plant at the somewhat highbrow Britt Festival, or raging the stages of punk rock dive bars, these kids find appreciative audiences everywhere they go and the crowds just keep growing. In an area known the past decade for a burgeoning reggae scene, 100 Watt Mind has become one of the biggest attractions around Southern Oregon.
Their first album “Out of Night” was mixed, mastered, and had tracks produced by Oz Fritz, whose previous works include the likes of Tom Waitts and Primus. Southern Oregon local music media and promoters voted “Out of Night” “Album of the Year,” the band “Band of the Year,” and Brynna Dean “Rockstar of the Year” in 2013.
2014 was their biggest year yet. 100 Watt Mind found themselves on numerous festival stages as well as opening a few times for regional legends Floater, gold-certified rockers Saving Abel, and the notorious Hell’s Belles. The band embarked on their first real tours, finding great audiences across Oregon, Washington, California, and Idaho. They also recorded their second album, CREATURES, released to much acclaim (and one hell of an audience) January 9, 2015, at Ashland’s “Historic Ashland Armory,” the premier room in the region. Armed with a new record and all the Pure Rock Fury four people can muster, 100 Watt Mind stands poised and ready to take over in 2015.
Blue Lotus is back with an all new line up that includes new bass, drums and keys. Excited to be touring with 100 Watt Mind! Get ready for a night of multidimensional dance music! Deep funky grooves, soaring guitar solos and inspired vocals combine into one high energy musical experience.
